Send funds from your fiat account
Making a bank transfer to a counterparty, what details each rail needs, and why a payment might be returned.
Version 1.0 · Last updated
When you would do this
When you need to pay a supplier, employee or contractor in traditional currency. Admins and Signers can send bank transfers. Requesters and Viewers cannot.
Steps
- Go to Operation › Banking.
- Select the account to pay from, EUR or USD, and choose Send.
- Recipient. Pick an existing counterparty with bank details saved, or choose New Address to enter a new recipient.
- If entering a new recipient, provide their details for the rail you are using, and choose whether they are a business or an individual. The details are saved to your counterparty list for next time.
- Amount. Enter the amount. The screen shows what is available in the account.
- Review. Check the recipient, the amount, the rail and the applicable charge.
- Confirm.
What details each rail needs
EUR over SEPA: beneficiary name, IBAN, and optionally BIC or SWIFT and the bank name.
USD over ACH: beneficiary name, account number, routing number, bank name, and the recipient's legal address including street, city, postal code and country.
Enter the beneficiary name exactly as their bank holds it. A mismatch is the most common reason a transfer is returned.
What to expect
The transfer appears in your Transactions and in the Statement tab with a status of Pending, then Executed, or Failed.
Settlement time depends on the rail. Euro transfers over SEPA Instant normally arrive in seconds. Dollar transfers over ACH normally take one to two business days. Transfers submitted outside banking hours, at weekends or on public holidays start moving on the next business day.
Charges are set out in your Order Form. The review step shows the applicable charge before you confirm.
Reversibility
Once a transfer has been executed you cannot recall it from Stablerail. A receiving bank may return a payment it cannot apply, but that is the bank's decision and it can take days. Treat an executed transfer as final and check the details before confirming, not after.
Common problems and what they mean
"Add account details." The counterparty exists but has no bank account saved for this rail. Add one on their record.
The transfer failed. The receiving bank rejected it. The usual causes are a beneficiary name that does not match the account, an incorrect account or routing number, or an account that does not accept that transfer type.
The transfer is returned days later. The receiving bank accepted it, then could not apply it. The funds come back to your account, usually minus any charges taken along the way.
You cannot send. You are a Requester or Viewer, or the balance is insufficient once charges are accounted for.
You started a transfer on one rail and switched to another. Switching discards what you entered, because the two rails need different details. The app warns you before it does.
