Compliance and screening

    Read a risk result

What PASS, FLAG and BLOCK mean, what the risk dossier contains, and what you can do in each case.

    When you would do this

Every time you approve a payment. This is the part of the screen that exists to protect you, and reading it is the job.

    The three verdicts

PASS. The checks found nothing unusual. The payment is ready to sign. A pass is not an instruction to sign: it means nothing automated objected, and your own judgement still applies.

FLAG. Something needs a human to look at it and say why it is acceptable. The payment is created but locked. It cannot be signed until the flag is resolved with a comment and supporting evidence. See "Resolve a flagged payment".

BLOCK. The payment is not permitted. It cannot be signed by anyone, at any quorum, and there is no override. Reject and archive it.

You will also see CHECKING while screening is still running.

    What the risk dossier contains

Open the payment in Operation › Signing and read the dossier. It lists each check that ran with its own result and a description of what it found.

Checks fall into groups: the destination address and its associations, your own policy rules, behavioural signals about whether this payment fits your normal pattern, and what is known about the counterparty.

Alongside it, Policy Checks shows which of your rules applied and whether each was satisfied.

    How to read a flag

A flag names the reason. Common ones include a first-time recipient above your threshold, a payment above your document threshold with nothing attached, a payment outside your usual operating hours or size, and a pattern that resembles splitting payments to stay under a limit.

Read what the check actually says rather than the colour. "New recipient" on a supplier you onboarded this morning is expected. The same flag on a payment you did not initiate is not.

If the explanation does not match your understanding of the payment, stop and find out why before signing.

    What to expect

The dossier is stored with the transaction. It appears in the evidence pack and can be reconstructed later exactly as it was when the decision was made, along with who decided and what they wrote.

A verdict applies to that payment. Creating the same payment again later can produce a different result.

Common problems and what they mean

A blocked payment you believe is legitimate. It still cannot be sent. Contact your account manager rather than trying to route around it.

A flag you cannot resolve. If it is a structuring flag, the person who created the payment is not allowed to resolve it. Someone else must.

The dossier shows a check with no result. Screening could not complete that check. Do not read a blank as a pass.

Everything is flagged. Your thresholds may be set very low for the volume you run. Review them with an Admin. See "Set your policy thresholds".
