Stablerail as a Coinbase Prime alternative
Coinbase Prime pairs qualified custody with an institutional trading desk, financing and reporting — built for funds, treasuries buying and selling crypto, and corporates that want a regulated US counterparty. Stablerail is not a trading venue. It is the account an operating company runs its stablecoin money through: hold USDC and USDT under your own keys, approve payments against policy, screen counterparties, pay suppliers and payroll, issue cards and settle to a bank.
Side by side
| Dimension | Stablerail | Coinbase Prime |
|---|---|---|
| Primary buyer | CFO or finance lead at an operating company | Funds, institutional investors and corporate treasuries buying or selling digital assets |
| Shape of product | A business account with a finance UI for balance, approvals, payouts, cards and rails | Prime brokerage: custody, execution, financing, staking and reporting |
| Custody model | Self-custodial MPC. Keys are split and the organisation holds a share, so Stablerail cannot sign alone and keys can be exported under quorum | Custodial. Coinbase Custody Trust holds the assets under a New York trust charter |
| Networks | Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Chain, Solana, Tron, Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash and XRP from one account | Broad asset and chain coverage tied to Coinbase's supported list; Tron support is notably limited compared with the rest |
| Trading and liquidity | Not a trading venue. Conversions happen through partners where needed | A genuine strength: deep liquidity, algorithmic execution, OTC desk and financing |
| Policy model | Organisation-level approval limits, allowlists, self-approval limits and signing quorum set by an admin; changing a policy needs Admin plus quorum and lands in the audit log | Role-based permissions, withdrawal allowlists and approval thresholds inside the Prime console |
| Counterparties | Counterparty register with legal name, accepted network, address history and screening evidence per record | Address allowlisting; not a vendor register with legal-entity records |
| Screening | Sanctions and wallet-risk checks before release plus ongoing monitoring, stored as evidence against each payment | Institution-grade AML and compliance at the platform level; per-payment screening evidence for your own AP file is not the deliverable |
| Payouts | Batch vendor, contractor and payroll runs built in | Withdrawals and settlement; batch AP is not the product |
| Cards | Stablecoin-funded corporate cards with limits, freeze and a transaction feed | No corporate card programme for businesses |
| Fiat rails | SEPA, SEPA Instant, ACH, SWIFT, Faster Payments and virtual IBANs via regulated partners | Fiat funding and withdrawal via bank wires and ACH for the institutional account, not a company payment account |
| Invoicing | Payment requests, invoices and reconciliation next to the balance | Not included |
| Earn | Yield on idle stablecoin balances | Staking and financing products for institutional clients |
| Gas | Fees sponsored where supported on Tron, EVM and Solana | Network fees deducted from withdrawals |
| Evidence and close | Audit log plus an exportable evidence pack per transaction for auditors | Institutional statements, reporting and SOC attestations |
| Counterparty risk | None to Stablerail: you hold keys and can exit under quorum | You take exposure to a regulated custodian; strong, but it is still a third party holding assets |
| Onboarding | Company KYB, then operate; no minimums | Institutional onboarding with eligibility criteria and typical minimums |
| Engineering required | None to operate the account | REST and WebSocket APIs available; integration expected for programmatic flows |
| Support | Named account manager and operational support | Institutional coverage and relationship management |

Choose Stablerail if
- You are an operating company paying suppliers, contractors and payroll — not trading a portfolio.
- You want to hold your own keys instead of placing assets with a custodian.
- You need approvals, screening evidence and a counterparty register an auditor can read.
- You hold USDT on Tron or balances across Solana and Bitcoin alongside EVM chains.
- You want corporate cards and SEPA, ACH or SWIFT payouts from the same balance.
Choose Coinbase Prime if
- Execution quality matters: you are buying or selling size and need deep liquidity or an OTC desk.
- Your mandate or auditor requires a regulated qualified custodian.
- You want financing, margin or institutional staking against your holdings.
- You are a fund or investment vehicle rather than a company with an accounts-payable run.
Frequently asked questions
Is Stablerail a Coinbase Prime alternative?
For operating a company's stablecoin treasury, yes. Coinbase Prime is built around custody and execution for institutional investors. If your problem is holding USDC and USDT, approving payments, running payouts and cards and reaching SEPA or ACH, Stablerail is the account for that. If your problem is trading size, Prime is the better venue.
Does Stablerail hold our assets like Coinbase Custody does?
No. Stablerail is self-custodial: keys are split using MPC and your organisation holds a share, so Stablerail cannot move funds alone and you can export keys under quorum. Coinbase Prime is custodial — the trust company holds the assets on your behalf.
Can Coinbase Prime pay our vendors and contractors?
It can send withdrawals to allowlisted addresses, but batch payout runs, a counterparty register with legal-entity records, per-payment screening evidence and invoicing are not part of the product. Those are the core of Stablerail.
What about corporate cards?
Coinbase Prime does not issue corporate cards for business spend. Stablerail issues stablecoin-funded corporate cards with per-card limits, instant freeze and a transaction feed that reconciles against the treasury balance.
Can we use both?
Yes. A common split is executing and holding long-term positions through a prime broker while the operating balance that pays suppliers, cards and payroll sits in Stablerail under your own keys.
